Project partners

The whole project is coordinated from the Institute of Geophysics, University of Hamburg by Matthias Hort who has been working in the field of magma physics for the last 15 years. This project involves also researchers from the IFM-GEOMAR, University of Hamburg, BGR (Hannover), GFZ Potsdam, University of Potsdam, Darmstadt University of Technology, Ludwigs Maximilians University of Munich, Technical University of Munich, and the DLR Oberpfaffenhofen. Two local partners will help at test installation: CVRAG and the University of the Azores. For details on the different partners see the attached work packages.

Project strategy

The project is divided into 5 work packages which contain related tasks. This enhances communication between the different groups working on related topics. Three of the work packages focus on advancing ground based (WP1) and space based (WP2) observational techniques as well as developing a central database, an alert level system and visualization tools (WP3). One is focussing on quantitative, physical models and data interpretation (WP5). Finally WP4 hosts the development of the communication network and the prototype installation of the VFRS as well as the overall coordination of the whole project.
